Welcome

Dismissed so loudly, I started a blog.

I have some notes….

This is how it all started…

Title: “Scoreboards, Schedules, and Silence: The Girls Deserve Better”

I’d love to say this story has a happy ending, but let’s be real—this is the Good Old Boys Club we’re dealing with.

It started when my daughter’s high school golf season kicked off. The boys’ schedule was posted everywhere—on the school website, the morning announcements, even laminated and tacked to the office bulletin board. The girls’ schedule? Nowhere. Not on the website, not in the newsletter, and certainly not on the walls of the school.

So, like any mildly irritated (okay, absolutely livid) girl mom, I emailed the school’s athletic office. A polite email, mind you. Just a little Hey there, seems like the girls’ sports schedule got lost in the shuffle! Could you post it?

No response.

A week later, I sent another email. This time, a little less polite and included my daughter’s assigned vice principal who is also a man. Followed by several voicemails over the next 2 weeks to both men.

Still nothing.

Then, I did what any rational woman who’s spent years being ignored by men in power would do- I tracked the vice principle down on back to school night.

And let me tell you, I was met with a look of absolute confusion. After a few moments he was able to remember. The assistant principal gave me a rehearsed “We’ll look into that, and get right back to you,” which is admin-speak for Please go away.

Two more weeks passed. No schedule. No contact.

At this point, I was done playing nice. So, I did what they should have done weeks ago—I called the principal. Shockingly I received a call from the VP in record time where I was told, “Wow, didn’t know I was going to have to have such an emotional conversation.” My personal gem from this man, “Do I need to call your husband in order to have an adult conversation?” Take home I can pound sand, but the schedule was posted. It didn’t feel like a win, it felt like this was the beginning of the war.

So, to the all-male admin staff who “dismissed” me: I see you. And trust me, I’ll keep talking until you start listening.
